LGBT Discrimination Protection
California laws protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees from suffering from the insensitivity that some employers deliver through LGBT rights discrimination.
In California, you have the same rights as everyone else to be free from mistreatment both in words or actions based upon your sexual identity, preferences and your beliefs.
California law protects you while you are work if you are gay, bi-sexual, or transgender from being denied equal opportunity, equal pay, equal access to training and from being treated differently because of who you are.
California Protection under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA)
California law protects men and women who live a life of same sex sexual orientation from being bullied or harassed because of their sexual identity.
California law defines those persons who are protected from sexual harassment as:
“Sex” also includes, but is not limited to, a person’s gender. “Gender” means sex, and includes a person’s gender identity and gender expression. “Gender expression” means a person’s gender-related appearance and behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at birth.
As the law defines it in California: “Sexual orientation” means heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality.
